The National Pantheon of Heroes and the construction of the myth of Solano López
Abstract
The formation of memory as well as national identity runs through the constructionof national symbols and mythologies that add value to a good or an event. In thecase of heroes the story is very similar: they are created as the example of what shouldbe considered as important qualities of a person who is part of that nation. The War ofthe Triple Alliance produced these images on all sides of the conflict. This work aims toexamine one of these constructions, the rescue of the mortal remains of Solano Lópezand the construction of the National Pantheon of the Heroes in Asuncion and, basedon this, his elevation to the category of national hero.Downloads
