Continuing studies of history teachers: experiences, views and possibilities

Abstract

This article has the objective to publish the results of a research that had as a study object the process of teachers’ continuing studies of undergraduate courses of History, in the years 1980 and 1990, as well as the relationship between the initial studies and the pedagogical practices in the elementary and medium levels. Three courses of History of universities in the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil were investigated. The study comprised oral interviews with teachers who majored in those institutions that work as teachers of History in public schools of the elementary and medium level and also teachers of the selected institutions. It is a reflection on the role of the university concerned to the initial studies and on the construction of the teachers’ practices with the objective to create new knowledge about the relationship among studies, knowledge and teachers’ educational practices. In a special way, it approaches the several changes that happened in the study process and in the performance of teachers of History.
