“Misericórdias da Santa Casa”: a case study on medical practice in 1800’s Minas Gerais

Abstract

This article seeks to analyze the role exercised by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of São João del-Rei in the practice of medicine during the first half of the nineteenth century. It focuses on the therapies applied in treating patients in the region comprising the Comarca of Rio das Mortes, Minas Gerais.
