The presence of Arabs in South America
Abstract
This paper highlights the main aspects of Arab influence on South American cultures and societies. It argues that this influence is due both to the cultural legacy of Portuguese and Spanish colonizers who had been for centuries under Arab domination in the Iberian Peninsula and to the presence of immigrants from the Middle East who arrived from the end of the 19th century onwards, dedicated themselves to commercial activities and left many descendants.
Key words: Arab culture, Arab immigration, South America.Downloads
