The poet and the historian. Southey and Varnhagen and historiographic experience in 19th century Brazil
Abstract
The purpose of this article is to make offer an initial discussion of the use of the poetry of the English historian and poet, Robert Southey’s by the Brazilian historian, Francisco Adolfo de Varnhagen in his writing of Brazil’s history. Thus, this analysis aims at understanding the Brazilian historiographic experience in the 19th century on the basis of the relation between history and the fiction genre represented by poetry.
