Contact, war and negotiation: reduction and Christianization of Maynas and Jeberos by the Jesuits in the Amazon region during the 17th century
Abstract
This article discusses the origins of the missions established by members of the Jesuit School of Quito in the Amazon region during the 17th century. The paper reviews the forms of contact adopted by the missionaries to approach the Jeberos in the Huallaga River and the role played by the dynamics of “war-negotiation” in the implantation of those missions.
