Popular Catholicism and the church: conflicts and interactions
Abstract
The article discusses some of the different aspects of the relation between the church and popular Catholicism. This is a relationship that is historically marked by conflicts between the institution and the faithful, some of which were violent and excluding. But it is also a process characterized by symbioses between lay practices and institutional practices, between officially recognized beliefs and other practices in the the daily lives of the faithful. Thus, it is a relationship marked by diversity and complexity.
