Pencil artist: Illustrations of Eduardo de Araújo Guerra in the periodical Cabrion. Pelotas, 1879-1881
Abstract
The city of Pelotas in Rio Grande do Sul province was one of the major urban centers in Brazil in the nineteenth century. The economic development provided a significant progress in press. Daily literary and illustrated newspapers, magazines and almanacs are part of this developed press. One of the most important was the newspaper Cabrion. Cartoonist Eduardo de Araújo Guerra became polemical due to his sarcastic pictures. This article aims to analyze his activities, especially related to subjects dealing with his pictures addressing other journalists.
