Mocambos: Nature, culture and memory
Abstract
In this article it is discussed the established relations between the hut inhabitants (quilombolas) in low Amazon rainforest and the nature. It is observed these individuals in the escape and societal reproduction process. Also, it is discussed the life experiences of the Macombo descendants’ communities established at the rivers and lakes in that Amazon region during the nineteenth century. Th ese communities have in cultural practices, their memories and stories the sense of belonging and legitimacy of land ownership.
