O Cruzeiro magazine: A civilizing project through photojournalism (1955-1957)
Abstract
The article analyzes the social representations conveyed in the photos and stories published in O Cruzeiro magazine between 1955 and 1957, as part of a pedagogical project that ultimately aimed at inserting Brazil in the so-called “civilized” world. O Cruzeiro, which was the main magazine of its kind that reached the whole country at that time, played a fundamental role as a mediator of social representations in Brazil. These representations reflected the views of the group that published the magazine and the developmentalist ideas of that period.
