Elitist urban central area of Cachoeira do Sul (RS): The invasion of outsiders in the years 1930-1940
Abstract
This article analyzes the local elite’s view of the intensification of the arrival of outsiders, lower class people coming from agricultural areas, to the central urban space of Cachoeira do Sul (Rio Grande do Sul State) in the years 1930-1945 as this view is expressed in the press at that time. The method employed consists of the fragmentation and reassembly on the basis of news reports, chronicles, etc. of the local press, particularly of the Jornal do Povo. In general, it concludes that the arrival of the outsiders to the urban area modified daily life in that eminently elitist territory. This is reflected in an explicit differentiation made in the narrative form, which values the elite and undervalues outsiders.
Key words: elite, outsiders, territory, press, urban, daily life.Downloads
