Notes about the accounts of the council: municipal power, “common good” and emoluments in the town council of Vila Rica in 1721-1734
Abstract
The article discusses two points about the council of Vila Rica. The first one concerns the study of the council’s accounts in the years 1721 to 1734. Thus, by means of a detailed study of the council’s revenues and expenses it points out the importance of this institution vis-à-vis society in issues related the operation of the town and makes it possible to see its action in the municipal administration. The article then relates the gains obtained by the council’s officials in the exercise of their positions with the possibility of their enrichment.
