Antiquity is grade: Aldeia de Imbuí, conflict and memory (19th and 21st centuries)
Abstract
The conflicts concerning the areas belonging to the Federal Government of Brazil in the region known as Forte do Imbuí beach, located in Jurujuba, Rio de Janeiro, are the object of this article. We intend to discuss the unfolding of the justice process about the area, considered a national security zone, as well as analyze the production of “truths” about the region and the memory threads which legitimize the occupation by ancient inhabitants of the region, nowadays facing an accelerated process of eviction. For that purpose, the text revisits the confrontations about the area and presents the main elements to justify the inclusion of the Aldeia, constituted in the 19th century, in the scope of traditional community denomination.
Keywords: Imbuí village, history and memory, land conflict, traditional community.
