Abstract

This contribution is focused on the abduction practiced by and against “infidels” in the border area from which on the Eastern Republic of Uruguay was built. To this end, documentation is presented referring to the intensity of this practice from the arrival of European people until the 1830s. In this context, it is pointed out that all the social actors in the aforementioned period and space were victims and victimizers of this activity. In addition, it is shown that in that area of decreasing borders the indigenous people called “infidels” bore the brunt, in the sense of not being able to keep their “reproductive potential” safe. Likewise, such was the main variable in the process that led to the early disappearance of their nations. Additionally, considerations regarding abduction, suffering and documentary sources are included.
