In Brazil, Decree-Law 891 of 1938 consolidated the prohibition of Cannabis and, since then, different social sectors have been debating its consequences. Based on the concepts of representation and historical source proposed by the Annales School, the paper analyzes the representations of the newspaper Diário de Pernambuco regarding police actions to fight Cannabis between 1938 and 1981. 2,926 pieces of news were identified through clipping. From this initial set, there were 636 specifically considering marijuana eradication. This database enabled the analysis of social, political and economic aspects, as well as the construction of a map, allowing the georeferencing of police actions. In general, the work concludes that the destruction of illicit crops and the confiscation of ready-to-use marijuana were one of the most common ways to combat Cannabis. At the end, the work also identifies and discusses four narratives of police actions: large coordinated operations, small raids, violent actions and orientation policy.
