Palynological catalog of quaternary deposits from two places in the eastern part (Coastal Plain) of Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. Taxonomy - part IV: Magnoliophyta I (Magnoliopsida)
Abstract
This paper presents the results obtained by qualitative pollen analysis in the Quaternary deposits from Guaíba and Capão do Leão regions, Rio Grande do Sul State (RS), southern Brazil. Thirty one palinomorphs related to Magnoliophyta (Magnoliopsida) are described and illustrated. The composition and diversity of the modern related forms show that elements of distinct habits and distribution in the forest understorey are represented. The palinological assemblage also shows that the environments were composed by closed gallery forests, peats and open areas covered by fields and marshes. Most of their components grows today in the granitic soils of the southeastern hills from RS or still lives in the coastal plain sand dunes, peats and marshs, such as the Taim and Domingos Petrolini bog areas, not far from the studied areas.
