We propose to examine the presence of Getúlio Vargas in archival films, which arose from his death to contemporaneity. We list three feature films, released between 1956 and 2016, observing them through their relations with the moments of crisis and transition of the Brazilian democratic experience, under the shadow of authoritarianism. We analyze how the filmic montages produce new meanings for official images, which are recurrent in the narratives. We seek to understand how these images reappear in different situations of Brazilian political history, acting in cinematic remembrances of Getúlio Vargas
