This article aims to analyse the Twitter posts which contain the hashtag #casamentoreal, referring to the wedding between the American actress Meghan Markle and the British prince Harry, member of the most popular royal family in the world. The main goal is to understand, through the corpus, cultural aspects and power relations, which are revealed in the Twitter comments, proposing a qualitative interpretation of the data, by the Cultural Studies perspective. Therefore, we have opted to apply a quanti-qualitative method of analysis of semantic nets based on the collection of digital contents, which allow the investigation of terms most frequently related to the discourses that compose the corpus. As a result, we identify as central axes of the analysed content: race and ethnicity; gender, globalization and cultural hybridism, revealing perspectives that reinforce the hegemonic pattern, as well as a critic discourse that questions power structures socially consolidated.
Keywords: Royal wedding. Social networks. Semantic analysis. Culture.
