With this paper, we intend to observe how Brazilian critics received the movie feature Tabu, and how they see it among the new production of the recent Portuguese cinema. We part from the perspective of the reception studies, here in a transnational approach because we study a kind of reception taken place out of its original and sociocultural context of production. We cross it with theoretical and methodological approaches from Rhetoric and interpretation, in order to understand the meanings and senses that the movie produced in the discourse of the specialized Brazilian film criticism. And also we try to observe what kinds of argumentative strategies critics use to evaluate and interpret a movie.
Keywords: Portuguese cinema, film criticism, reception, rhetoric.
