Abstract

This paper intends to investigate game themed music, a phenomenon of the late 1970s to the early 1980s. Our hypothesis is that there is a connection between games, Sci-Fi, and electronic music (or music that has electronic influences), sharing the same cultural context, and assimilating uses and possible functions of the newborn Human-Computer Interaction technologies, thus developing questions on the impact of these technologies in our daily lives. Therefore we shall investigate three game themed songs, using the categories of sounds, visuals, and lyrics, to scrutinize how the connections between games, Sci-Fi, and music are portrayed in these songs.

Keywords: games, music, Sci-Fi, media history.
