The goal of this paper is to reflect upon the ruptures of meaning in Brazilian contemporary series. The theoretical-methodological framework is based on semiotics of culture. The reflection will be based on Lotman’s explosion concept (1999) in order to reflect upon how the aesthetic and narrative aspects observed in telefiction may provoke tension that leads to new meanings and makes us realize certain cultural systems which compose the semiosphere thought by Lotman (1999). We believe that, recurrently, productions have been shown, especially by the main open channel, TV Globo, which offer something unpredictable to the viewer in relation to visual aesthetics and also to narrative pathways and, thus, propose new ways of telling fiction stories on television.
Keywords: fiction stories in television, ruptures of meaning, semiotics of culture.
