We detect with special keenness in contemporary societies the close relationship between communication and temporality. Indeed, communication technologies (with their telecommunication and their networks) brought a singular temporal experience of social life. In this paper we ponder the influence that the present time inflection (based on instantaneity and immediacy) brings to communication. Highlighting, on the one hand, journalism and, on the other hand, the role of media in the configuration of the experience of present time, we give emphasis to some of the risks and potentialities that presentism, seen as a contraction of temporality, brings to the communicational phenomenon.
Key words: journalism, present time, communication theory, media ecology, collective memory, philosophy of communication.
