Singular practices, everyday routine, time/space ordering, identity perception, archaic/modern relation and the use of communication instruments are constitutive elements of the social world. For the different social agents, the construction of meaning is affected by these elements. Having as basis the precepts of phenomenology and etnomethodology through ethnographic visits, this study shows the relational processes among culture, media and development in the life of a social segment “gaucho” (rural inhabitant from Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil). The interdisciplinary conception among sociology, economy and media studies leads to the comprehension that these agents understand the development as productivity, in correlation to space and belonging, associated to the space appropriation, the life style and the media apparatus. This way, for the gaucho, productivity and belonging are performative elements in the understanding of a developed region.
