Mediatic Discourse Representations: the case of impunity in Colombian press

Abstract

This article represents an approach to critical mediatic discourse analysis based on the study of social representations related to impunity; this study is established on a corpus made up by 350 news taken from four Colombian newspapers. The research is established according to the acknowledgement of meaning representation levels in discourse from a cognitive-cultural approach. In order to establish this meaning representation levels, it is important to figure out what the conceptual nets, mental and cultural models and social representations are. On this study, the way these different meaning construction levels of meaning in discourse are intertwined is shown through the analytical process. This corpus has been subject of statistical techniques of text analysis, linguistic techniques, cultural and cognitive techniques of meaning study. Besides, on this study, three impunity representations are reconstructed and interpreted.
