On the ontological construction of the concept of audience
Abstract
This article discusses the definitions of the concept of audience used throughout history in the area of communication research. Its aim is to go beyond the notions of mass, society and individual. The author proposes to use the concept of “social field”, created by Pierre Bourdieu, in the study of audience and also advocates the importance of critical research.
