The mediatization of economic information on CNN en Español
Abstract
This article shows the main results of a research project undertaken to understand the specificities of economic information, concerning the United States and Latin America, constructed by Economía y Finanzas on CNN en Español. It discusses the interaction between agents of the media and the economy the strategies used by the program in order to produce this information. The analysis was made in two movements: the first one quantitative (15 programs) and the second one qualitative (4 news reports), complementing but not excluding each other. The results point towards clear differences in relation to the role of symbolic mediator played by the media agent and the meaning production strategies, considering the format given to the news.
