The case study applied to the rural area of Palmas (TO) aims to observe the consequences of the introduction of TV in the lives of peasants and to discuss possible changes it brings to their culture, economy and social relations through the influence it has on children. When investigating the integration of that medium in the rural context, the author is aware of the influence of television and the extension of the urbanized and capitalist global reality to the local reality of peasant families. Without ignoring the benefits provided by TV in rural areas, this paper observes the social consequences resulting from its introduction among peasants.
