In this article, we discuss the fundamentals and the ways of operating the automatic media recommendation systems of the music streaming services, which are becoming increasingly important in music consumption. In the first part of the text, the definition of taste is discussed in three different perspectives: philosophy, sociology and neurology. It is understood that the neurological conception of taste marks an important rupture with previous traditions, being adopted by the computer industry and establishing conditions on musical enjoyment. Then, the main automatic recommendation methods, developed with the support of Artificial Intelligence (AI), are assessed. Finally, questions are raised about possible consequences of the intensive use of AI in music distribution through streaming services, in a communicational perspective, focused on circulation and consumption.Downloads
