The connected northeast: A framework of access to digital technologies by the youth communication

This article aims to conduct a mapping of the reality of the internet access by young people in the Northeast region, linking the access environment, most used devices and connection types to socioeconomic data. It presents the data from the research “Youth and Cultural Consumption in media convergence times,” which analyzed the consumption practices in the Northeast considering their socio-economic context, marked by the use of digital communication technologies, making a contrast between these data and other research conducted in Brazil. It was observed that the young from the Northeast have a Strong dependence on the home internet broadband, use the mobile Internet primarily to access instant messaging and application developers of social networks and, although they have a lower purchasing power, compared to other regions of Brazil, basically use the same media access devices.
