Jornal Nacional and violence against women: how the news contribute to the formation of opinion of young people

Abstract

Based on the theory of the multimediations, this reception study has a main objective of analyzing how the information linked to domestic violence against woman disclosed by Jornal Nacional, newscast aired on prime time TV Globo, are seized by young highschool students, considering too other mediations – friends, family and school – to which they are exposed. Ten high school students are the sample of qualitative field research. Through interviews, it was concluded that family mediation is the most important consideration in evaluating the subject and the attitude of young people on the topic. The aspect that stands out is that the Jornal Nacional serves as an instigator, since most young people reveals that the debate on violence against women at home and in other spaces begin when there is disclosure of reports related to the topic.
