Our aim in this paper is to present in general terms an introduction to the genealogical method elaborated by Nietzsche in The Genealogy of Morals. For this we will also rely on the famous article by Foucault entitled “Nietzsche: genealogy and history”. We will try to demonstrate to what extent the genealogical method is innovatory and profitable for an authentic historical philosophy. The genealogical method presents us a new understanding of temporality and, consequently, a new understanding of reality.
Keywords: method, genealogy, history.
