Democracia de cooperação social

Abstract

The article develops the proposal of a socioeconomic regime called social cooperation democracy, conceived as an alternative compatible with John Rawls’s principles of justice as fairness. The argument builds on Rawls’s critique of capitalist regimes and on the claim that the dispersion of productive wealth and the democratization of workplace relations are indispensable conditions of justice. I argue that social cooperation democracy combines these two elements in an institutional arrangement that expands the basic structure, incorporates the role of corporations, and prevents forms of coercion and domination. The proposal is articulated through a relational interpretation of Rawlsian justice, which emphasizes social cooperation and reciprocity as normative foundations, and through an anti-capitalist perspective that highlights the structural limits of capitalism in realizing democratic equality. The article concludes that social cooperation democracy constitutes an institutional arrangement more responsive to the requirements of liberty, equality, and reciprocity in a well-ordered society.
