Abstract

Due to the geotechnical peculiarities of Manaus, in general, the pavement construction works use asphalt sand mixtures, which, allied to adverse weather conditions in the region – high temperatures and high rainfall, lead, as a general rule, to a significant and premature deterioration process. In this study we analyzed the performance of this structure by means of a visual survey of pathologies in a representative excerpt of roads in the municipality, in accordance with the norms established by DNIT; in addition, we pointed to their possible causes. The results indicated that this route presents coating ranging from bad to terrible, where most of the pathologies are associated mainly to the fact that these mixtures do not present the coarse aggregate as their participant and as a result of sublayers, with thin soils, present the low support for the paving.
