Abstract

The application of high strength steels is strongly diff used in the engineering industry, especially in applications where weight reduction is important, such as the industry of agricultural machines and trailers industry. This investigation aims at conducting a comparative analysis on the mechanical behavior (micro hardness profile and tensile test) of welded joint by GMAW – Gas Metal Arc Welding – using different values of current power and voltage. The welding process was made using robotic system to maintain homogeneity along the joint, the right distance and position during the total weld joint length. The mechanical behaviors were performed with the optical microscope, micro hardness profiles analysis and tensile test. The results showed that the mechanical properties between the base metal and the weld in a structural steel welded joint have a primary importance in the final test results.

Keywords: welding, micro hardness profile, tensile test, high strength low alloy steel.
