This article aims to analyze the existential implications of one of the main sentences of the Confessions, namely, "You excite to rejoice to praise you, because you made us for yourself and our heart is restless until it rests in you" (I, i, 1). For this purpose, we explore the author's thinking not only in this work mentioned above, but also from some that preceded it and that nourish the placements made in this later writing. The basic thesis with which the author works is that existential concerns are inherent to man and means a demand for God. In addition to highlighting the psychological meaning of the sentence, we clarify the mistaken interpretation that such a condition would imply some curse inherent to man, dispelling the pessimistic perspective that may arise from this reading.
