Anxiety symptoms in pre-surgery bariatric patients: a comparative study

The aim of this study was to identify anxiety symptoms in pre-surgerybariatric patients and to compare them with the control group and between genders.It is a quantitative, correlational, comparative study with a sample of 81 participants.A socio-demographic questionnaire, Trait-State Anxiety Inventory (IDATE) andAnxiety Symptom Intensity Scale (LIS-A) were used. In the pre-bariatric group(n=31), the mean of the women’s IDATE was 39,18 and 34,18 in the LIS-A, and forthe men 30,67 and 19,33 respectively. In the control group (n=50), the mean numberof women was 37,07 in IDATE and 35,58 in HIS-A, and 34,60 and 22,53 in men. Therewas a higher prevalence of anxiety symptoms in women, but there was nosignificant difference in mean anxiety scores between the two groups.
