After several discussions of the Brazilian National Education Council to meet the goals set for the improvement of education, from 2015 to 2017 a Brazilian National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) was elaborated in order to define the set of learning that all students should develop in their school path. Based on that, this research aimed to understand the Base as a situated genre of governance, identifying what are the knowledge that are being legitimized and even delegitimized with the implementation of the BNCC. The Base served, inclusive, as corpus of study, which had the theories of Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) and Systemic-Functional Linguistics (SFL) as theoretical and methodological approaches. As results, it was possible to identify that the discourse produced by the Base is a discourse of governance, because, implicitly, highlights the focus of the changes, which will happen through the focus on essential learning, indicated by the skills and abilities worked in each curriculum component, aimed at the labor market. These values are even above the concern to keep the student in school and create the minimum conditions for study.
