This research aims to analyze the state of the literature on dynamic capabilities in the context of sustainable innovation. In addition to identifying a set of research topics, presenting a categorization of the literature found; systematize the main contributions found; identify unexplored research fields or research gaps; propose questions and lines of future research. The theoretical basis goes through a discussion about dynamic capabilities in the context of sustainable innovation. This is a systematic review of the literature. It was adopted according to Denyer and Tranfield (2009) as five stages for the development of the methodology. The five steps are: (1) formulate the research question, (2) locate the literature, (3) select and evaluate, (4) analyze and synthesize, and (5) present and explore the results. Therefore, the results showed an increase in publications on the themes of dynamic capabilities and sustainable innovation from 2015 onwards, and the journal with the highest number of publications was Sustainability, followed by the Journal of Cleaner Production and Business Strategy and the Environment. The results also demonstrated the need for more conceptual and theoretical studies on the subject. It is suggested to carry out future studies on dynamic capabilities and other topics, especially related to circular economy, business models, absorptive and ambidextrous capacity, in order to expand the research developed on the subject. There is still a gap for future research in the investigation of the maintenance of organizations amid the pandemic and the rigor of dynamic capabilities in the adaptation process.
