Abstract

The issue of sustainability has never been as discussed as in recent years, but there is still no consensus on its concepts and coverage. A literature review about urban sustainability was made, and the latter was conceptualized and defined by using indicators derived from attributes of urban sustainability to employ them in two residential neighborhoods in the city of Caxias do Sul. For this purpose, analysis matrices were made to confront authors, sets of attributes and indicators, as well as analysis of case studies. City maps were analyzed taking into account the selected attributes to choose two residential neighborhoods to be verified for their sustainability through a detailed survey of the site to be studied. As a result, the methodology was employed in the residential neighborhoods of Exposição and São Pelegrino, concluding that urban sustainability can be identified according to some attributes.
