Translucent concrete begins to appear in publications and research laboratories in Brazil and the world. It is a material with a high potential development, but that is not produced in large scale in Brazil, partly because it is not known by the majority of the population and the technical community and in part due to its high cost. Based on this finding, this work intends to develop a translucent block with an execution that is different from the ones developed so far, allowing a large scale production, using randomly arranged fibers and reducing costs. The mechanical properties and absorption of the blocks were analyzed to prove their technical feasibility. It was observed that the blocks presented a resistance above the expected one, up to 61.5 MPa, and low capillary absorption, not exceeding 0.39% of the volume, in a 90 minute test.
Keywords: translucent block, optical fibers, mechanical properties.
