Abstract

This paper covers an emerging trend in the current architecture practice, so called “Digital Design”, based on a new methodology with an unique theoretical framework, supported by new technologies and able to produce a new class of objects with a high level of complexity. Since recent literature about the intensive application of Information and Communication Technologies – ICTs on architecture practice, the paper shows how these technologies have remodeled society’s behavior this past decade and have been revolutionizing the architecture field, establishing new paradigms in the conception, development and construction of architectural products. As a consequence this paper asserts the importance of a professional update in terms of digital technology and suggests a deep revision in the curricula of the schools of architecture in order to remove the disciplines of graphic computer application from their peripheral role, as a mere accessory in the final representation process of architectural design to place them as part of the design studio methodology.
