Abstract

This study reviews guidelines for adapting domestic spaces aimed at people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), focusing on creating environments that meet the sensory and behavioral needs of this population. The research adopted a systematic review methodology, analyzing articles and studies published in the last 10 years, with an emphasis on residential, therapeutic and educational environments. 15 articles were selected that presented guidance on aspects such as acoustics, lighting, sensory zoning, security and flexibility of the space. The results reveal the importance of a design that considers the sensory and emotional specificities of individuals with ASD, highlighting the need for customizable, safe environments with adjustable stimuli. Furthermore, challenges related to financing, cultural resistance and the lack of continuous user participation in the adaptation process were identified. The research also reinforces the relevance of collaboration between professionals and the community to develop more inclusive spaces. These guidelines can serve as a basis for creating more functional and comfortable environments, promoting the well-being and development of people with ASD.
