Design metrics: A systematic review of the scientific production of the Design Management Institute
Abstract
Design and management are activities that focus on solving problems, and the best way to integrate design into companies is to do it gradually, responsibly and deliberately. Such integration can be seen in numerous publications that show the professionalism of designers and their activities on the highest levels of corporate management. Thus, it becomes important for managers to establish ways of measuring design, in order to make known the contributions design delivers to the achievement of the company’s goals. However, knowledge of performance indicators by designers is restricted and the subject is rarely addressed in Brazilian academic journals. This study conducted a systematic review of Design Metrics. Considering the importance of the largest international source of research in design, viz. the publications of the Design Management Institute, this study discusses the research currents and the foci adopted by leading international authors. Finally, it also suggests research paths to be further explored.
Keywords: design management, design metrics, strategies for design.
