The dilemmas of popular organization in the solidarity economy movement in Brazil

Abstract

The formation of solidarity economy initiatives that appear with the main perspective of surpassing the conditions of poverty has become more notable from 1990 onwards. Solidarity Economic Enterprises are a means of collective organization of labor in which the relation between capital and labor is not the traditional one, in which the management dynamics conveys an important political and cultural meaning, off ering conditions that enable the overcoming of the deprivation of political and material capability. The development of the solidarity economy in Brazil led to the consolidation of the solidarity economy movement, whose main expression is the Brazilian Forum of Solidarity Economy. The research that orients this article analyses the dynamics which delineate the creation and consolidation of that Forum. It also aims, through the mentioned research subject, at the perception of how the political actors of this movement are confi guring popular organization in favor of social transformation.

Aline Mendonça dos Santos, Centro de Estudos Sociais - Universidade de Coimbra

Possui graduação em Serviço Social pela Universidade Católica de Pelotas (2000), mestrado em Ciêcias Sociais Aplicadas pela Universidade do Vale do Rio dos Sinos (2004) e doutorado em Serviço Social pela Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (2010). Durante o ano universitário europeu 2008, realizou estágio doutoral junto ao Centro de Estudos Sociais da Universidade de Coimbra (CES - UC). Atualmente é investigadora CES UC onde realiza pós doutoramento junto ao "Núcleo de Democracia, Cidadania e Direito" e integra a equipe de Boaventura de Sousa Santos no projeto "ALICE - Espelhos estranhos, lições imprevistas: definindo para a Europa um novo modo de partilhar as experiências do mundo". É membro do Grupo de Estudos sobre Economia Solidária do CES (ECOSOL CES), membro do Grupo de Pesquisa sobre Economia Solidária da UNISINOS (ECOSOL UNISINOS) e membro do Laboratório de Políticas Públicas (LPP/ UERJ). Recentemente coordenou o Centro de Formação em Economia Solidária da região Sul do Brasil. Tem experiência na áreas de Sociologia e Serviço Social atuando principalmente nos temas trabalho e economia solidária.
