Abstract

The world today faces a lon g-term systemic crisis which is converging in multiple crises: economical, financial, climatic conditions, energy and food production. The policies promoted by FAO, from the Green Revolution up to the Genetic Revolution, generated quite a few problems for both the environment and society. This essay will explore issues that generated the agricultural industry and propose a possible solution showing the example of two Korean organic farming cooperatives: iCoop and Hansalim. It will show with the neo-institutionalist approach of Hansmann -transaction costs and property right costs- how these two cooperatives have managed to be economically efficient and at the same time showing respect for the environment and the society, thus becoming an alternative agricultural policy.

Key words: land grabbing, ecologic alternatives agricultural cooperatives, rural sustainable development, ecological economics.
