Secondary dispersion in coatis’ feces Nasua nasua (Linnaeus, 1766) (Mammalia: Procyonidae) in a fragment of Cerrado, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil
Abstract
We tested secondary dispersion of seeds in coati’s feces for the factors rain, invertebrate and vertebrate animals using the species Cordia sellowiana Cham., 1829 and Randia armata (Sw.) DC., 1830. In the area considered, the invertebrate are the main destructors of mounds of feces with seeds. The action of the rain varied in importance. For C. sellowiana the rain was the less important factor in the secondary dispersion. For R. armata the rain factor is comparable to the control and the invertebrate. The percentage of secondary dispersion for vertebrate was in second place for C. sellowiana, and in last for R. armata.
