The Catholic press and the issue of democracy in Brazil: The political crisis in the pages of O São Paulo
Abstract
In this paper, I present some reflections on the positioning of important segments of the Catholic Church regarding the Brazilian political-institutional crisis of recent years. The research is related to the “History of Present Time”, problematizes the presence of the institution in the context of the Brazilian democratic construction of the last decades and its object is the coverage made by the O São Paulo – important vehicle of Catholic communication – related to the protests of June of 2013 and the process that resulted in the impeachment of President Dilma Rousseff in 2016.
