Representations and appropriations of indigenous toponyms/ethnonyms in a geographical chart of the 17th century
Abstract
In this article we intend to clarify the various dilemmas related to the process of elaboration, circulation and attribution of ownership of a seventeenth century map of colonial Paraguay and adjoining territories. We will first examine questions related to authorship, chronology and the sources for the production of maps in the Dutch cartography market of the seventeenth century. Secondly, we will focus on significant disputes and considerations of intellectuals in human sciences about the themes and dilemmas concerning this map.
