Abstract

This article presents the two main forms in the genre that has been known as Intellectual History. This study takes into account not only the views of historians who analyze the text as its own reference, but also those perspectives of scholars who prefer to deal with the extratextual expression present in the text discourse. This study also intends to demonstrate the elements that best describe the different modes of operation of interpretative art of historical texts. The article accepts and defends the relative value of different historical conceptions of text interpretation. However, we recognize that the free use of theories and text analysis methods is not always appropriate, especially when it comes without careful consideration about the possibility of unifying its elements in just one “theoretical cocktail”.

Keywords: text and context, theories of interpretation, Intellectual History.
