On comets and rainbows: Antônio Vieira, the Jesuits, the revealed knowledge and modern science
Abstract
On the basis of the positions of the Jesuit priest, Antonio Vieira about the comets, the work examines connections between faith and “science” and seeks to demonstrate that for men of the 17th century the empirical knowledge of the natural world was also a form of knowing God.
